Details
Ken moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1970 to teach at Moore College of Art & Design. He taught there for 33 years. In 1974, he, and 4 of his students at the time, founded The Clay Studio, which occupies the 2nd Street Art Building in olde-city Philadelphia. In 1986, Ken became a Bucks County resident when he moved to Hilltown and built his studio. He also built his unique, high temperature kiln using space-age refractory fibre. The suspended, counter-weighted kiln enables him to load large delicate sculptures easily. After the kiln is loaded, he simply lowers the kiln to do the firing. While Ken has made various kinds of art from clay including different kinds of sculpture, pottery and tile, over the years his primary art format has been wall sculptures that are abstract in form with a colorful and painterly glazed surface. Recently Ken has been glazing platters and trays with abstract images echoing the forms of his sculptures. He hangs them on the wall where they read essentially as paintings. Ken is a member of the Philadelphia Sculptors group. Additional images of this artist's work can be viewed in our gallery. |
