Jonathan Hertzel's newest bronze sculptures from the “In The Garden” series are reflections about the garden as a place of growth and change; a dynamic sequence of cycles of birth, deterioration and renewal. It is a place in which organisms react to and are transformed by the elements both nurturing and hostile. The bronzes capture the components of the garden, the organic, transformative qualities of nature and, at a more emotional level, the passionate qualities of human-nature and how we react and interact in our world – in our metaphorical garden. Linda Guenste's paintings have alway been autobiographical. Whether exploring the structural center of a tree or her personal reaction to her environment, she assumes the role of amanuensis and project a series of emotions meant to be interpreted and absorbed. Each piece tells a story; many times through the image on the canvas but most times through the eyes of the viewer. The canvas activates the viewer and creates a dialog. Her work asks questions and involves the viewer not only visually but emotionally. The theme of her work has primarily been nature with a focus on trees and environment and has explored the transitional state of innocence to maturity. In the past few years, her work has take a political turn. Additional images of Linda's work can be viewed here and images of Jon's work can be viewed here.
