Detailed driving directions to Bunker Hill Studio. Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles had a fairly traditional focus in the Fifties, but I was drawn to the New York school of Abstract Expressionism. This early interest laid the foundation for how I approach my work today - with a desire for innovation and discovery, a partnering with materials, gestural drawing, and a trust in my own intuition. More recently I have pursued my interest in texture. I remember being stunned by images from the electron microscope and other technologies that reveal the intricacies of nature. Islamic art, with its rhythmic abstract patterns, first seen at the Met in NYC, were total inspiration. My continued commitment to learning is inspired by the diversity of styles practiced by abstract and non-objective artists. In my current painting, I’m pouring oil paint on layered surfaces. I create these surfaces using collage or plaster or by sanding boards and canvas. Charcoal drawings on paper, as well as printmaking, are also part of my current works. Living in Upper Black Eddy, Bucks County, has expanded my interest in the fascinating visuals offered by nature and has renewed my dedication to the creative process.
